Better School Grades for Children at Premier Martial Arts

It is a general belief that kids who study the most are the ones who get the best grades in school. It may be true, but research has also shown that for the overall development of the personality of a kid, it is important that he/she develops a habit of doing something other than just studying. It could be anything and can vary from person to person. Some may like to play a musical instrument while others may like to be involved in a physical activity.

Learning karate is also one of those activities which would guarantee an overall development of the personality of a child which would indirectly help the kid to get good grades at school. It ensures that the kid is disciplined and helps him to prioritize his commitments. Martial arts is also a great place for kids to learn life skills that can help them succeed at school and at home!

Training in karate has become common for parents looking for something extracurricular for their child. People are now aware about its benefits and do not hesitate in enrolling their kids in martial arts. When a comparison was made between the kids going to this karate training with that of the kids who don’t, it was quite clear who performed better when it came to academics.

There is no direct connection between getting karate training and securing good grades. It is all because of the indirect benefits of karate training like reduced stress levels, high self-confidence and increased focus. It helps kids to perform way better in academics than their peers who don’t have any such extra-curricular activity to engage themselves in their free time.

So, if you want to see your kid growing into a holistic person as an adult, you should enroll your kid at Premier Martial Arts and see the amazing results yourself.

Premier Martial Arts Teaches Respect to Students

By Premier Martial Arts in Fort Wayne, IN

Karate to the common man may only be a ritual of self-defense and fighting techniques. However, the intricacies of learning karate go much deeper than this superficial belief. Karate is known to teach its students much more than just a fighting style. Martial arts training programs have a great number of varied, unifying and underlying principles that are also taught to students.

A few of these values that are imparted to students at Premier Martial Arts include self-discipline, courtesy, greater self-confidence, larger self-esteem and strength of mind. However, one of the most important fundamental principles that underlie a karate training program is the principle of respect.

Value of respect

Respect is a value that everyone understands the need and importance of. Respect needs to be both given and received. One of the aspects of respect that is commonly looked over is self-respect. Having self-respect is one of the most important stepping stones to being able to respect others and develop as a person. However, even though respect holds such importance, it is not commonly seen today especially in the youth.

How martial arts training can develop respect

Martial arts training programs are specifically designed to imbibe a sense of respect into students both on and off the mat. The environment at a karate training center helps students to not only develop respect for their seniors and instructors, but also for their peers. As a student develops and learns karate he understands that the best way forward is through perseverance and self-belief. It is natural for a student to subsequently develop a sense of self-respect as well. Many parents have observed that their children have developed a greater sense of respect not only for the people at their training classes but also in all other crucial areas of their lives.

Exercise and Cognitive Abilities

By Premier Martial Arts in Fort Wayne, IN

Scientific evidence through neuro-imaging has suggested that physical activity improves a person’s cognitive ability across all ages. Age related brain tissue loss is minimized. Existing cognitive ability is improved. People can allocate more attention towards the environment. Information can be processed much more quickly.

Survival throughout history

The human brain has an exceptional capacity when it comes to modifying its function and structure as per influences of experience and environment. Physical activity has played an important role at the time of biological adaptation. It ensured that humans survived through a number of catastrophic periods. During this time, foraging, exploration and defense along with cognitive skills were fully integrated to the motor operations of the body so that humans can survive. The hippocampus, a body part which has an important role in processing of memories, is highly influenced by many physical activities. Regions of the brain developed that controlled cognitive abilities. These adaptations led to adequate savings of energy so that a more complex and larger brain can evolve. Humans soon developed the capacity to walk upright and faster than ever before. All these were essential for survival.

Cognitive control means a subset of self-regulatory and goal directed operations which are involved in selection, coordination and scheduling of the computational process underlying action, perception and memory. The important cognitive processes are collectively referred to as “cognitive control”. They include inhibition, cognitive flexibility and working memory.

Rise in cognitive skills

Research has revealed that regular physical activity led to a 50 percent increase in cognitive performance. Tasks needing larger cognitive control became much easier for the concerned individual. All these findings point toward the fact that physical activity helps an individual to be more attentive and improve and preserve cognitive functions considerably over time.

The above findings are applicable to all age groups, including school going children. Physical activity plays a positive role during development. In younger people, physical activity improves all the eight categories of measurement: perceptual skills, achievement, mathematics tests, academic or developmental readiness, intelligence quotient, verbal tests and memory. In fact exercise also helps in cognitive processes which help with maintaining balance and fine motor control.

3 Popular Martial Art Techniques And How They Enhance Strength

By Premier Martial Arts in Fort Wayne, IN

This article is about increasing your strength through three popular martial arts techniques. The techniques are punching and two different kinds of kicks.

People come to martial arts for a number of reasons. Some are attracted to martial arts because they want to learn to defend themselves. Others come because they want to tap into martial arts’ vast power as a tool for personal growth. Still others come merely because they are looking for a way to get in shape that’s fun and spares them the tedious repetitiveness of the gym.

While martial arts can give a student all of these things, it is at its heart, a form of strenuous physical activity. The practice of any martial arts can be an excellent means of becoming leaner, suppler, faster, more flexible and stronger.

Strength Equals Power in Martial Arts

This rule holds true in any kicks in martial arts technique. At many martial arts schools, increasing strength is one of the things we focus on. Lifting weights is great but for a martial artist, it’s not desirable to develop a bodybuilder’s physique. Much of the strength training at martial arts facilities is inherent in the techniques itself.

Front Snap Kicks for Core Strength in Martial Arts

All martial arts kicks utilize the muscle groups in the legs, however, many of the kicks they practice also call on core muscle groups like the abdominals and lower back muscles. Practicing martial arts front snap kicks with their high chambering of the knee is a particularly good way of increasing core strength in your abs, while simultaneously strengthening the muscles in your legs.

Punching Your Way to a Stronger Upper Body in Martial Arts

When it comes to punches in martial arts, strength equals speed which equals power; the three are intertwined. So, while a certain amount of weight lifting may help to increase your punching power, similarly, throwing punches in martial arts will help you develop better upper body strength. Working out on the heavy bag, hitting focus pads and other methods of practicing punches are all ways to enhance upper body strength through martial arts technique.

Side Kicks for Lower Body Strength in Martial Arts

The side kick is one of the most immediate and devastating techniques in martial arts. Like a front snap kick in martial arts, side kicks utilize core muscles to some degree. However, side kicks place a greater demand on the lower body than many other martial arts kicks. Practicing side kicks is an excellent way to build greater strength in your legs, hips, and thighs. The hard work you put into building this strength through practicing your kicks in martial arts will pay dividends by translating as power when you unleash that side kick on a target.
